History & BackgroundThe West Wing Arts Centre was developed from a redundant school site and was funded by central and local government. The town’s first arts strategy aimed to improve arts facilities for local people. The regeneration and equipping of the centre involved consultation with local groups, schools, arts organisations and artists providing a state of the art building to promote the arts, artists and participation in the arts. The West Wing initially opened for hires in September 2004, followed by the launch of the professional programme in September 2005. The venue has a fully equipped 249 seat auditorium providing a high quality and culturally diverse artistic programme of international, national and local arts. The venue offers a professional arts service and access to facilities and equipment for public, educational, private and commercial use. The West Wing Arts Centre provides a neutral space for Slough’s communities to come together to share and celebrate the town’s diverse culture and traditions promoting vibrant and safer communities. |
